In view of Municipal Corporation Election: Orders to keep liquor shops closed within the limits of Municipal Constituencies in the district on 21st December 2024

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar 20, December: In order to maintain law and order, proper conduct of election process and to maintain peace in public interest during the Punjab State Municipal Election-2024 to be held on 21st December 2024, orders have been issued to keep liquor shops closed within the limits of Municipal Constituencies (Kharar, Gharuan, Nawangraon and Banur) in the district on 21st December 2024.

District Magistrate, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Shri Viraj Shyamkaran Tidke, IAS, exercising powers vested under Section 54 of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, has banned the opening of liquor shops and premises within the limits of Municipal Election Constituencies in the district. These orders will also be fully applicable to hotels, clubs and liquor shops etc. situated within the limits of these constituencies, where sale of liquor is legally permitted.
