Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar December 03, 2024: Under the leadership of Chief Agriculture Officer Mohali Dr. Gurmail Singh, the Block Agriculture Officer is continuously inspecting the fields where wheat is sown in various villages of Block Derabassi regarding the attack of pink stem borer.
The Chief Agriculture Officer of the district, Dr. Gurmail Singh, has advised the farmers to keep inspecting the fields continuously to prevent the attack of pink stem borer on the wheat crop. He instructed the entire staff of the department to inspect the wheat crop in the fields of the farmers. Agriculture Officer, Derabassi Dr. Sandeep Bahl and Agriculture Assistant Manjit Singh conducted a survey in villages Dhanoni, Mehmadpur, Paragpur, Ibrahimpur, Sheikhpura and Karkore. During which no attack of any kind of insect was seen anywhere.
He said that pink stem borer and soldier borer are not the main pests of the wheat crop. Due to the change in weather, these insects attack some fields several times. The pink stem borer burrows into the stem above the root of the wheat and eats the inner female. Due to which the plants turn yellow and the attacked plants or branches dry up. The possibility of its attack is more in early sowing fields. Because the movement of this insect decreases with the decrease in temperature.
If the attack of pink stem is seen more, then mix 7 kg of fipronil 0.3% or one liter of chlorpyrifos 20 EC in 20 kg of soil and spray it before planting. And watering during the day should be preferred.
