Barnala - In a meeting of public democratic organizations of Punjab at Barnala yesterday, it was decided to take action on the International Human Rights Day (December 10). The organizations have invited the people of Punjab to celebrate the International Human Rights Day as a protest against the attacks on human and democratic rights by the government.
Through the new penal laws, UAPA and other black laws like 295(299) etc., the rights of citizens, activists to express their views, to organize and to protest were crushed, they were jailed and terrorized with raids by agencies like National Investigation Agency. Apart from arresting and throwing them in jails for a long time, voices will be raised against steps like taking away labor rights through the new four labor codes. The roots of this sharp attack on workers' rights are the globalization, liberalization, and privatization policies of 1991.
In the meeting, the resolution was unanimously passed to raise voice against the Maoists and security forces targeting the tribals through Operation Parhar in the tribal areas, dislocating them from the forests and mountains etc. Public democratic organizations will jointly conduct a campaign to educate the people of Punjab to oppose the attacks being carried out by the government to protect human and democratic rights.
To prepare for the campaign, joint meetings will be held on 25 November to plan the programs of December 10 in our own way at the district level.
