Maur Mandi/Bathinda- While the politics of Maur has heated up due to the mutual statements of leaders regarding the sewage issue, the ongoing agitation for laying a sewerage pipeline in village Ghasokhana has ended after an agreement was reached between the district administration and the protesting farmers.
The farmers arrested by the police were released and the farmer leaders who were on hunger strike broke their fast. The administration also stopped the work of laying a sewerage pipeline in the village area as per the agreement reached with the farmers, while the work of laying a pipeline in the rest of the area will continue continuously.
It is worth mentioning that a sewerage pipeline is being laid from village Ghasokhana to drain the wastewater of Maur Mandi, which the villagers were opposing. Due to the oppression being faced by the villagers, the Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Sidhupur opened a morcha and protested, after which the police arrested a large number of villagers and farmer leaders and sent them to jails in different districts.
Meanwhile, under the call of SKM Non-Political, the organization started the 'Jail Bharo Andolan' and sent 126 farmers to jail. On the other hand, half a dozen farmers led by District President Baldev Singh Sandoha, who was brought by the police, who were demanding the release of the arrested farmers, started a hunger strike. Due to the daily arrests by the farmers, the DIG Bathinda, Deputy Commissioner Bathinda, and District Police Chief Bathinda held a long meeting with the farmer leaders on the above issue.
In which the district administration agreed to stop the work of laying a sewerage pipeline in the area of ??village Ghasokhana, release all the arrested farmers and villagers and asked the farmers to withdraw their agitation.
After the administrative assurance, Baldev Singh Sandoha, Lakhwinder Singh Lakhi Jungle, Harbhajan Mehta, Nachhattar Singh Ghasokhana, Gurmeet Singh Ghasokhana and Harbans Singh Ghasokhana, who were admitted to the Civil Hospital Bathinda in the presence of the ADC, SDM and SP City, were broken their fast by the state president of the organization, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who reached the spot and gave them juice.
On this occasion, Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Kaka Singh Kotra said that a long fight has been fought for the injustice done to the people of village Ghasokhana regarding the forced laying of sewerage pipeline.
The result of the farmers' struggle is that the administration has agreed that we will stop work in village Ghasokhana and will work where there is no obstacle. We will consider the arguments of the farmers. The farmer leaders said that if the administration reneges on its promise, they will be forced to start the agitation again.
