Youth Urged to Stay Away from Drugs and Follow Traffic Rules

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 15:- With the objective of strengthening the campaign against drugs and creating awareness about road safety, the district police organised a special awareness seminar for students at BSH Arya Senior Secondary School, Sohana.
The seminar was conducted by S. Karnail Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic, under the directions of Mr. Varun Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, District SAS Nagar, and Mr. Ramandeep Singh, Superintendent of Police, Traffic. During the seminar, students were made aware of the harmful effects of drugs, along with detailed information about the importance of following traffic rules and participating in sports.
The students were informed that every citizen has a responsibility to maintain controlled speed while driving on the road, not jump red lights, use helmets and seat belts, not drive under the influence of intoxicants and not use mobile phones while driving.
They were told that while travelling on the road, attention should be paid not only to traffic rules but also to morality and human values. Giving immediate way to an ambulance and helping an injured person involved in a road accident without any fear or hesitation is our social responsibility.
On the occasion, students were also informed about the legal and safety-related consequences of using mobile phones while driving. They were told that under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, use of a mobile phone while driving is punishable with fines and other penalties as prescribed by law. Students were motivated to strictly follow traffic rules and also create awareness about road safety among their family members and companions.
S. Karnail Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic, urged the students to stay away from drugs, channel their energy in a positive direction and take up sports. He said that sports play an important role in the physical and mental development of youth and also help keep them away from social evils such as drug abuse.
