Unscheduled Power Cuts Expose Governments Claims Sanjeev Talwar

Hoshiarpur, September 16:- The Shiromani Akali Dal organised a massive protest in Hoshiarpur today over the issue of unscheduled and prolonged power cuts in Punjab. The protest was held at the Circle Office, Punjab State Electricity Board, Tanda Road, where party leaders and workers, along with farmers, traders, industrialists, women and common consumers, participated in large numbers and expressed their anger over the power cuts.
Leading the protest, Shiromani Akali Dal Hoshiarpur Assembly constituency in-charge and District President Sanjeev Talwar said that there was a major difference between the Punjab government’s claims regarding uninterrupted power supply and the ground reality. He said that people were facing prolonged unscheduled power cuts, affecting not only domestic life but also trade, industry and agriculture.
Sanjeev Talwar said, “The government is making different claims, but the people of Punjab are facing the impact of power cuts at the ground level. If electricity is not supplied regularly, how will industries operate, how will shopkeepers conduct their businesses and how will farmers manage their farming?”
He said that electricity is a basic necessity for people and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure regular and reliable power supply to every section. He said that the Shiromani Akali Dal would not ignore the problems being faced by people due to unscheduled power cuts and would continue to raise its voice over their issues.
Addressing the protest, Shiromani Akali Dal Punjab Vice President Jatinder Singh Lalli Bajwa said that electricity was not merely a facility but a basic necessity for people in the present time. Every section, including homemakers, students, shopkeepers, traders and industrialists, was being affected by power remaining unavailable for hours. He said that irregular power supply was creating difficulties for the business community in production and trade, while farmers were also facing problems related to irrigation.
Bikramjit Singh Kalsi, General Secretary of the BC Cell, Shiromani Akali Dal Punjab, said that people’s problems needed to be resolved at the ground level rather than through political statements alone. He said that the government should clarify the reason for the unscheduled power cuts and when people would get relief from the problem.
On this occasion, Prem Singh, District President of the SC Cell, Shiromani Akali Dal, said that protests were being held across Punjab under the directions of Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal over unscheduled power cuts and people’s problems. He said that the protest organised in Hoshiarpur was also part of the same campaign to convey people’s voice to the government.
A large participation of women was also witnessed at the protest. Women leader Neeti Talwar said that prolonged power cuts were directly affecting household work, children’s studies and the daily lives of families. She said that the Shiromani Akali Dal would not turn away from people’s problems and would continue to raise people’s voice on the issue of power supply.
Rana Ranveer Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Sardar Jagtar Singh, Advocate Sukhbir Singh, Davinder Bharaj, Inderjit Kang, Gurinder Singh Goldy and Makhan Singh also addressed the protest and highlighted the problems being faced by people due to power cuts.
Iqbal Singh Gopi, Gurbakhsh Singh Rehal, Sardar Jagtar Singh, Ravinder Singh, Sanjeev Thapar, Dharmendra Pal, Meena Kumari, Ved Adia, Manpreet Sandhu, Anoop Bhardwaj and Mrs. Sanjana, along with a large number of Shiromani Akali Dal leaders, office-bearers, workers and people from various sections, were present on the occasion.
During the protest, leaders and workers raised slogans against the unscheduled power cuts and demanded an immediate resolution of people’s problems.
