Students Made Aware of the Harmful Effects of Drugs and Traffic Rules

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 9 September:- Under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police, District S.A.S. Nagar, Mr. Varun Sharma, IPS, and Superintendent of Police Traffic, Mr. Ramandeep Singh, PPS, seminars were organized by Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic, S. Karnail Singh, PPS, at various educational institutions as part of the campaign against drugs and awareness regarding road safety.
During these seminars, students of Sri Guru Nanak Dev College of Education, Majatari, Meritorious School, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, and Sardar Baldev Singh Senior Secondary Smart School were made extensively aware of the harmful effects of drugs, the action being taken by the police against drugs, and compliance with traffic rules.
S. Karnail Singh appealed to the students to play their role in making the Punjab Government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign successful. He said that if any information is received regarding a person selling or consuming drugs, the police should be informed immediately. Information in this regard can be provided through WhatsApp number 9779100200, Police Helpline 112, or at the nearest police station. He said that strict legal action is taken against drug sellers, while efforts are also being made to provide treatment and appropriate assistance to persons suffering from drug addiction.
He motivated the students to stay away from drugs and engage themselves in sports and other constructive activities. He said that drugs not only harm a person’s health and future but also create serious problems for the family and society.
While providing information about traffic rules, the Deputy Superintendent of Police appealed to the students to follow traffic rules themselves and also motivate their family members to do so. He specifically appealed to them to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and from driving at excessive speed.
He informed that in case a child below 18 years of age is found driving a vehicle, action can be taken against the parents/person responsible for the vehicle as per law, under which imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to Rs. 25,000 can be imposed. He motivated the students to make road safety an important part of their daily lives.
On this occasion, drivers and students were also informed about the ‘Good Samaritan’ / Farishte Scheme being run by the government. He informed that persons who help an injured person in a road accident and take them to the hospital in time are provided a cash reward by the government as per the rules.
S. Karnail Singh appealed to the students to share the information received during the seminar with their family members and people around them and motivate them to stay away from drugs, not to drive after consuming alcohol, avoid excessive speed and follow traffic rules.
On this occasion, Chairman of the social service organization ‘Insaniyat’ of Sri Guru Nanak Dev College of Education, Majatari, Mr. Ramandeep Singh, President Mr. Nahar Singh, Mr. America Singh, Mr. Bhupinder Singh and Principal Dr. Harjit Kaur; Principal of Meritorious School, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Mrs. Ritu Sharma, D.P. Mr. Manpreet Singh and other staff members; Principal of Sardar Baldev Singh Senior Secondary Smart School, Mrs. Harminder Kaur, Mrs. Manjit Kaur, Mr. Rupinder Singh and other staff members were present.
In the end, the principals and staff of the educational institutions thanked S. Karnail Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic, for visiting the institutions and providing important information to the students, and appreciated the views shared by him.
