Sangrur:- Sangrur District Police arrested nine accused involved in thefts, robberies, and snatching incidents in the jurisdictions of Police Station City-1 Sangrur, Bhawanigarh, Dirba, and Longowal. During the operation, the police recovered 776 grams of stolen silver, 37.5 kilograms of copper wire, two battery inverters, one UPS, one dragon light, one hair dryer, one headphone, and three motorcycles from their possession.
Sharing the details with the media, Dr. Ravjot Grewal, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sangrur, said that under the "War Against Drugs" and "Village Watchmen" campaigns, Sangrur Police intensified its crackdown on drug traffickers and anti-social elements between 16 July and 24 July 2026.
During this period, the police registered 33 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 53 accused, recovering 149 grams of heroin, 22 kilograms of poppy husk (chura post), 25 intoxicating injections, and 175 intoxicating tablets.
In a separate drive against illegal liquor trade, the police registered 11 cases, arrested 13 accused, and seized 117 litres of country liquor from licensed outlets, 13.5 litres of illicit liquor, and 65 litres of lahan (fermented liquor material).
The SSP appealed to the public to actively support the anti-drug campaign. To spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs, police teams have been conducting meetings with village panchayats, sports clubs, and prominent citizens. During the reporting period, gazetted officers and senior police officials held awareness meetings in 55 villages and towns, educating young people about the dangers of drug abuse and encouraging residents to share information about drug smugglers with the police.
He emphasized that Sangrur Police is taking firm action against drug traffickers and other anti-social elements and remains committed to eradicating the drug menace from society. The campaign against drugs will continue with full determination.
