Research infrastructure to be expanded in Haryana evidencebased policymaking to get a boost
Chandigarh, July 6:- In a significant initiative to strengthen policy-based research and evidence-based good governance in Haryana, the process of recognising the Swaran Jayanti Haryana Institute of Financial Management (SJHIFM) as a research centre of Kurukshetra University is underway. The aim of this initiative is to develop a strong research infrastructure to support the state’s long-term development vision and the goal of ‘Developed Haryana-2047’.
The proposal was discussed in detail in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Rastogi. Under this, the aim is to develop SJHIFM as a multi-disciplinary centre of excellence in the field of policy research, financial management, digital governance and capacity building. This initiative will institutionalize long-term research in priority areas and further strengthen the evidence-based decision-making process in the government.
Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, Mr. A.K. Singh said that on the affiliation of SJHIFM with Kurukshetra University, the institution will be able to run Ph.D. programmes on the lines of other prestigious research institutions of the country in accordance with the University Act, University Rules and the norms laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC). He said that SJHIFM is already working in the areas of outcome-based research, public policy studies, financial management, digital governance and capacity building and this affiliation will further strengthen its educational and research capacity.
The meeting also considered the proposal to revise the eligibility criteria for the sanctioned posts of Team Lead and State Programme Officer in SJHIFM. The revised norms are aimed at The aim is to attract more qualified and experienced talent including academicians, researchers, scientists and experts from universities, research institutes, government departments, public institutions and autonomous bodies. This will also ensure availability of sufficient number of qualified research supervisors for the proposed Ph.D. programmes.
This initiative will strengthen the research infrastructure of Haryana in line with the development priorities of the state and will play a significant role in providing quality policy inputs for effective and evidence-based governance.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor of Kurukshetra University Prof. S.N. Sachdeva, Director General of Higher Education Department Shri S. Narayanan, Advisor, Swaran Jayanti Haryana Institute of Financial Management, Panchkula Prof. R.S. Rathore and other senior officials of Higher Education Department and SJHIFM.
