Purushottam Maas Celebrations and Somvati Amavasya Observed with Fervor by Sudhar Sabha
Patiala:- The Purushottam Maas celebrations were held with great devotion and enthusiasm by the Sudhar Sabha. On the evening of Saturday, June 13, 2026, the Shiv Mandali organized a ladies' Kirtan, and Bilpatra saplings were planted. Following the Aarti, Kashish, the granddaughter of Puran Khajanchi, celebrated her birthday, and religious songs, especially those dedicated to Radha Krishna, were sung. Toffees and chocolates were distributed among the children, and 'Atut Langar' (community kitchen) was served. Devotees enjoyed the spirit of devotion and partook in the Langar while sitting together in the 'Pangat'. All members of the Sudhar Sabha rendered their services in preparing and serving the Langar.
On June 15, 2026, Somvati Amavasya was observed, marking the conclusion of Purushottam Maas. This auspicious confluence of Somvati Amavasya in the month of Jyeshtha has occurred after 30 years. Retired Pandit Shivni Sharma explained that this day is dedicated to the ancestors (Pitrs). On this day, acts of charity, almsgiving, and bathing in holy waters are considered highly auspicious. The Sudhar Sabha noted that this is the first time they have celebrated it in this manner. In the morning, Kheer Prasad was offered at the temple and distributed among the devotees, and in the evening at 5:00 PM, it was also served near the idol of Lord Shiva. After the Aarti at the temple, Langar consisting of Kheer and Poode was served. Other devotees also distributed various dishes in memory of their elders. By evening, the gathering of devotees at the temple took the form of a fair.
Local residents and city dwellers shared that ever since the installation of the grand idol of Lord Shiva and the establishment of 'Sudhar Sabha Shri Kedar Nath Ji (Regd.)', the temple has become radiant, and the footfall of devotees has increased significantly. Visitors believe that whatever wishes they pray for with devotion at the feet of Bhole Baba are fulfilled. The Sudhar Sabha invites all devotees to come, pay their respects, and receive the blessings of Bhole Baba.
