Punjabs First OLLIF Spine Surgery Successfully Performed at Livasa Hospital Khanna

Khanna, September 9:- Marking a major achievement in the field of minimally invasive spine care in Punjab, a 43-year-old woman suffering from chronic low back pain and pain radiating into her legs successfully underwent 'Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion' (OLLIF) surgery at Livasa Hospital Khanna.
The woman had been suffering from persistent pain for a long time, which had significantly limited her mobility and daily activities. Despite more than six months of conservative treatment involving medications, physiotherapy and other non-surgical interventions, her symptoms did not improve. A detailed clinical evaluation and imaging revealed lumbar spinal instability, degenerative changes and nerve compression.
Considering the patient's condition and the need to provide stability to the spine, Dr. Sandeep Singh, Consultant - Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement at Livasa Hospital Khanna, opted for the minimally invasive OLLIF technique.
The surgery was performed through a small incision under advanced image guidance and intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring. Access to the damaged disc was created through a minimally invasive approach and the disc was removed, following which an interbody cage filled with bone graft material was placed to restore disc height and facilitate the fusion process. Minimally invasive fixation was then performed to stabilize the operated segment of the spine.
There was very little blood loss during the surgery, and the patient was gradually mobilized soon after the procedure. Her post-operative recovery remained highly favorable, enabling her to regain mobility at an early stage.
