Park Grecian Hospital Gives a New Lease of Life to a 32YearOld Woman
Mohali: A 32-year-old woman suffering from Type 2 diabetes and severely uncontrolled blood sugar levels was recently given a new lease of life following treatment at Park Grecian Hospital, Mohali. She was successfully treated for severe 'Deep Vein Thrombosis' in her right leg and a life-threatening 'Pulmonary Embolism'.
The patient was brought to Park Hospital complaining of severe swelling, numbness, discoloration, and intense pain in her right leg, accompanied by extremely high blood sugar levels.
Initially, Endocrinology Consultant Dr. Neeraj Garg managed her uncontrolled diabetes and administered appropriate blood-thinning medications. Given the severity of the thrombosis and the risk of damage to the leg, the patient was subsequently evaluated by Vascular Surgeon Dr. Syed Wahid and Associate Director of Interventional Cardiology Dr. Sankalp Sharma.
Further investigations revealed that the patient had a massive 'Pulmonary Embolism' with a clot burden of approximately 90%, posing a serious risk of rapid clinical deterioration and a life-threatening situation.
Following appropriate systemic thrombolytic therapy, Dr. Sankalp Sharma and the interventional team employed advanced catheter-based therapies, specifically catheter-directed thrombolysis and mechanical embolectomy. An Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter was also inserted to minimize the risk of further clots traveling to the lungs.
Post-procedure, the patient was closely monitored and cared for by the multidisciplinary team. She has responded well to the treatment; her condition is currently stable, and she is recovering.
