Only If We Save Water Will There Be a Tomorrow Dr Chauhan
Nilokheri/Karnal, March 31: Water is not merely a resource; it is the very foundation of life. In the present times, water pollution and water wastage have become matters of grave concern—issues that can only be resolved through collective efforts. This sentiment was expressed by Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development.
He was addressing participants during the 'Ram Ram Haryana' program on the occasion of 'Zero Waste Day,' specifically focusing on the critical issue of drinking water conservation. He emphasized that not a single drop of water should go to waste. Furthermore, he issued a call to action to minimize waste generation.
Dr. Chauhan explained that the primary objective of the program was to provide a platform for the voices of rural areas, enabling the sharing of problems, suggestions, and positive developments associated with villages.
During the program, Gul Dhillon, the Sarpanch (village head) of Shamgarh, detailed the efforts undertaken by both the government and the local Panchayat to improve the drinking water situation in her village. Sarpanches from other villages—including Jasmer Chauhan, the Sarpanch of Sultanpur—also joined the program, sharing information regarding the developmental works, achievements, and challenges specific to their respective villages.
The program also witnessed active participation from the audience. A call was received from a listener in Mohna (Kaithal), who highlighted the incomplete construction work at the village's 'Harijan Chaupal' (community center). Additionally, several other listeners connected with the program to share their thoughts, suggestions, and concerns.
Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan stated that the water crisis has evolved from being merely an environmental issue into a serious challenge with significant social and health-related implications. He pointed out that the alarming decline in groundwater levels, the pollution of water sources, and the unsustainable utilization of water resources serve as ominous signs for the future. He emphatically stressed that rainwater harvesting, the adoption of water-conserving habits, and a strong focus on sanitation are absolutely essential.
He warned that if we do not become conscious of this issue in time, future generations may face severe water scarcity; therefore, it is the collective responsibility of us all to take concrete steps toward saving water, starting today. He urged the people to respect water, conserve it, and fulfill their responsibility to safeguard clean water for future generations.
This program proved to be a significant initiative aimed at strengthening rural dialogue and fostering public participation. Those present at the event included Jasmer Singh, Sarpanch of Sultanpur Gram Panchayat; Gurvinder Singh, Senior Advisor at the National Institute of Rural Development; Pritam Yadav from Apna Radio 91.2 FM; Bharat Sopori from Radio Vitasta 90 FM, Ambala; and others.
