NIPER SAS Nagar Celebrates Tribal Pride Day

SAS Nagar Mohali:- On the occasion of Tribal Pride Day & as a part of a yearlong celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh (Nov 2024 - Nov 2025), NIPER SAS Nagar organized various events to commemorate Bhagwan Birsa Munda's 150th Birth Anniversary.
The event started with the floral homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar by Prof. Dulal Panda, Director NIPER Mohali and Prof. Abhay H. Pande, Professor and Head of the Biotechnology Department
In his address, Prof. Dulal Panda, Director, NIPER S.A.S. Nagar said that 'Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh' is a dedicated year to celebrate & honour the contributions of tribal communities in India, particularly highlighting their role in the country's freedom struggle, with the primary focus on recognizing the sacrifices and bravery of tribal freedom fighters like Bhagwan Birsa Munda, whose birth anniversary falls on November 15th which is marked as "Janjatiya Gaurav Divas". He mentioned Bhagwan Birsa Munda as one of the real Heros of India’s freedom  movement.
A short documentary was presented by Prof. Sushma Singh that emphasized the significance of the contributions of tribal communities to India's freedom struggle, and national development. A short video clip prepared by the NIPER students on the life and key movements by Bhagwan Birsa Munda was played.
Several awards were presented to students and staff who participated in the quiz and essay writing competitions organized as a part of yearlong celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh at NIPER Mohali
A guest lecture on the topic 'Bhagwan Birsa Munda: A Symbol of Janjatiya Gaurav and Freedom Struggle' was delivered by Dr. Saundarya Kumar Deepak, Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty), Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Dr. Deepak Salunke acknowledged the Govt. of India's ‘Jan Jatiya Gaurav Varsh’ initiative, a year-long celebration of tribal pride and empowerment. He thanked the NIPER administration and Prof. Abhay H. Pande, Chairman of the committee, for their tireless efforts in organizing events and lectures to honour the renowned tribal freedom fighter, Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
