NHRC Special Monitor Dr Pradeepta Kumar Nayak visits Ghaggar Kusht Ashram

Derabassi (SAS Nagar), August 29:- Dr. Pradeepta Kumar Nayak, Special Monitor of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), today visited the Ghaggar Leprosy Ashram near Dera Bassi and interacted with persons affected by leprosy residing at the Ashram. He enquired about their well-being, needs and the difficulties being faced by them.
During the interaction, Dr. Nayak sought detailed feedback regarding healthcare services, availability of medicines, living conditions and other basic amenities. He emphasised that ensuring the dignity, rights and equal opportunities of persons affected by leprosy is essential for their inclusion in mainstream society.
Dr. Nayak directed the concerned officials to take all necessary steps to ensure that eligible residents of the Ashram receive the maximum possible benefits under various government welfare schemes. He stressed the need for effective coordination among different departments so that government schemes and services reach all eligible beneficiaries in a timely manner.
He also reviewed the facilities available at the Ashram and sought information from the concerned officials regarding the healthcare services being provided to the residents. Health Department officials briefed him about the measures being undertaken in the district for early detection, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of persons affected by leprosy.
The Special Monitor directed the health authorities to address the concerns of persons affected by leprosy with due sensitivity and ensure that they receive necessary healthcare services, medicines and other basic facilities. He also stressed the importance of continued efforts towards their social inclusion and protection of their rights.
Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Girish Dogra, SMO Dr. Dharminder Singh, District Leprosy Officer Dr. Jayati Batra and other officials of the Health Department were also present on the occasion.
