MLA Randhawa Reviews Mandi Arrangements Ahead of Paddy Arrival

Dera Bassi (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar), September 16:-To ensure smooth procurement of the paddy crop arriving at the grain markets under the Dera Bassi Assembly constituency and to prevent farmers from facing any kind of difficulty, MLA Shri Kuljit Singh Randhawa today held a special meeting with officials of procurement agencies, market committees, commission agents and the sub-division administration.
During the meeting, MLA Randhawa directed officials of the market committees to ensure advance arrangements for cleanliness, drinking water, lighting, tarpaulins and other necessary facilities at all the mandis in the constituency. He also asked the procurement agencies and commission agents to ensure timely procurement and lifting of the crop arriving at the mandis, so that farmers could be relieved from the markets without any unnecessary waiting.
Shri Randhawa said that during the last four and a half years, the Punjab Government has made adequate arrangements for the convenience of farmers in the mandis and that farmers would not be allowed to face any difficulty during the current paddy season as well. He said that due to vegetable cultivation in areas adjoining Banur and Rajpura in the constituency, the paddy crop gets ready early in some areas, keeping in view which it is necessary to complete preparations in the mandis on time.
He said that maximum possible shed arrangements have been made in the mandis to protect farmers from adverse weather conditions. He said that all departments associated with mandi management should work in coordination and ensure that farmers do not face any difficulty at any level while selling their crop.
The MLA assured the representatives of the Kisan Wing present at the meeting that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to ensuring uninterrupted procurement of farmers’ crops. He also appealed to farmers to bring only dry paddy with the prescribed moisture level to the mandis, so that they do not have to wait at the mandi for the crop to dry and the procurement process can be completed quickly.
On the occasion, officials of PUNGRAIN, Markfed, PUNSUP, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Market Committees of Dera Bassi and Lalru, commission agents of grain markets, representatives of the Kisan Wing, District Food Supply Controller Varinder Kumar and SDM Dera Bassi Shri Amit Gupta, along with other officials, were present.
