Mission Clean Punjab Second Phase Launched in Mohali

SAS Nagar, September 1:- The second phase of the Punjab Government’s ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ was launched in Mohali today with a special cleanliness drive initiated by the Municipal Corporation, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. MLA S. Kulwant Singh launched the campaign at Sector 74-A (Bariyali), Airport Road, in the presence of Mohali Mayor S. Sarabjit Singh Samana and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sundeep Singh.
Interacting with media persons, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the second phase of ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, launched by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has commenced across the state, including Mohali. He said that an intensive cleanliness drive would be undertaken on a war footing for the initial eight days and would continue thereafter to ensure sustained cleanliness and preserve the beauty of the city.
Emphasising the importance of public participation, the MLA said that no government campaign could achieve its desired objectives without the active cooperation of citizens. He appealed to the residents of Mohali to actively participate in ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ and help transform it into a people’s movement.
Kulwant Singh said that strict action would be taken against anyone found littering or dumping waste at public places. CCTV cameras are being utilised to identify violators, and challans will be issued against those found violating cleanliness norms. Legal action would also be initiated wherever required.
He further appealed to residents to assist the Municipal Corporation and the administration in identifying individuals who dump waste at open and public places. He also urged citizens to segregate wet and dry waste before handing it over for disposal as per the prescribed waste management system.
The MLA said that around 20 to 25 locations within the Municipal Corporation area have been identified for special cleanliness drives under the campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor S. Sarabjit Singh Samana said that maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of Mohali remains the Municipal Corporation’s foremost priority. He said that the campaign was launched from Sector 74-A (Bariyali), Airport Road, as the location serves as an important entry and exit point of the city.
The Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation had already been undertaking sustained cleanliness drives across Mohali for the past several months. Under the second phase of ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, the city’s major entry points and other identified locations are now being cleaned on a war footing to remove garbage dumps and further strengthen Mohali’s identity as a clean and beautiful city.
Senior Deputy Mayor S. Rajinder Prasad Sharma, Deputy Mayor S. Harpal Singh Channa, Councillor Parminder Kaur Bariyali, Gurpreet Singh Bariyali, Jaspal Singh Matour, Akwinder Singh Gosal, Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Chief Engineer Naresh Batta and Harmesh Singh Kumbra, besides other dignitaries and Municipal Corporation officials, were present on the occasion.
