Livasa Hospital Gives Elderly Woman a New Lease on Life

Amritsar: A 72-year-old woman suffering from active plasma cell cancer—specifically symptomatic multiple myeloma—has been given a new lease on life after receiving personalized treatment at Livasa Hospital, Amritsar. Significant improvement in the patient's health was observed following the treatment.
Dr. Amritjot Singh Randhawa, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Hemato-Oncologist at Livasa Hospital, stated that the patient presented with a severe form of multiple myeloma, accompanied by severe anemia and kidney dysfunction.
Further investigations revealed that approximately 81% of the cells in the patient's bone marrow were abnormal plasma cells. Her lambda free light-chain levels were extremely elevated, indicating a highly active disease state. Genetic testing also identified abnormalities associated with more aggressive forms of multiple myeloma.
Given the severity of the disease and the impact on kidney function, treatment was initiated using a regimen of Bortezomib, Cyclophosphamide, and Dexamethasone. This Bortezomib-based therapy is known to be effective in rapidly controlling the disease and improving kidney function.
The patient showed remarkable improvement within just two cycles; her overall health improved significantly, and a notable recovery in kidney function was observed.
