Income Tax Department Peon Arrested While Accepting 10000 Bribe
Karnal, July 15: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Karnal has arrested a peon working in the Income Tax Department red-handed while accepting a bribe of ?10,000. The accused had demanded the bribe in exchange for getting a task done for an individual. The arrested accused has been identified as Naveen. According to the ACB, he had demanded a total bribe of ?15,000 from the complainant; the complainant had already paid ?5,000, and the remaining ?10,000 was yet to be handed over.
Meanwhile, the complainant informed the ACB about the entire matter. Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB devised a plan and set a trap. The team provided the complainant with currency notes treated with a special powder and sent him to the accused. As soon as the complainant handed over the ?10,000 to Naveen and the latter took possession of the money, the ACB team—already stationed at the spot—apprehended him red-handed.
Following the arrest, legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB is now investigating the specific purpose for which the bribe was demanded and whether any other department employee is involved in the matter. A detailed investigation is currently underway, and the ACB has stated that further action will be taken once the inquiry is concluded.
