Government should get allegations of Kang against GMADA investigated Baljit Kaur
Kharar:- Punjab Mahila Congress Executive President Baljit Kaur, while expressing sharp reaction on the Punjab Government's agency GMADA being allegedly termed as a "den of corruption" by Aam Aadmi Party's Lok Sabha MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib Malvinder Singh Kang, said that these allegations are extremely serious and the Punjab Government should immediately clarify the situation on this matter.
Baljit Kaur said that the most important thing is that these allegations are not being levelled by any opposition party, but are said to have been levelled by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party's own Lok Sabha MP. If the ruling party's own MP is seeing corruption in the functioning of an important agency of the government, then the government cannot take this matter lightly.
She said that GMADA is directly connected with many important works including development, urban planning, land, residential and commercial projects of Mohali and surrounding areas. Thousands of people, farmers, land owners, businessmen and families buying houses have direct dealings with this institution. Allegations of corruption on the functioning of such an institution is a serious matter connected with the trust of common people.
Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab Government should clarify whether there is any truth in the concern expressed and allegations levelled by Malvinder Singh Kang? If he has facts, documents or specific complaints in this regard, then they should be investigated. Such a serious matter cannot be ended with mere rhetoric.
She said that before coming to power, the Aam Aadmi Party had made big claims of ending corruption in Punjab and giving people a transparent and accountable administration. Now if the party's own MP is raising such serious questions on the functioning of a government agency, then the government cannot escape its responsibility by just remaining silent.
Baljit Kaur said that common people have to make rounds of offices for various works related to GMADA. Timely disposal of people's applications and complaints, digitalization of processes and ensuring accountability of officers is the responsibility of the government. If corruption or irregularities come to light at any level, instead of suppressing them, exemplary action should be taken against the culprits.
She demanded from the Punjab Government that a high-level, impartial and time-bound investigation be conducted into the functioning of GMADA and the alleged allegations levelled by the MP. The results of the investigation be made public before the people and if responsibility of any officer or other person comes to light, then strict action as per law should be taken against him.
In the end Baljit Kaur said that "Government institutions are for the service and convenience of people. The people of Punjab now need not slogans and claims against corruption, but transparent investigation, accountability and concrete action." She said that Punjab Mahila Congress will continue to raise the issue of people's rights and transparency in the government system with full strength.
