Elderly Patient Suffering from Myelodysplastic Syndrome Successfully Treated at Livasa Hospital
Khanna: An 86-year-old male patient suffering from Myelodysplastic Syndrome was successfully treated at Livasa Hospital, Khanna. The syndrome was progressing toward Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and the patient was suffering from severe sepsis, shock, pneumonia, acute kidney injury, and several other associated complications.
The patient was brought to the hospital with complaints of fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea persisting for approximately three weeks. Upon conducting a detailed examination, doctors at Livasa Hospital identified severe anemia, a drastic reduction in platelet count, an elevated white blood cell count, and acute kidney injury. Further investigations—including serum protein electrophoresis and a peripheral blood smear—revealed significant abnormalities indicative of a severe blood disorder.
Dr. Nitin Mittal, Consultant and Associate Director of Internal Medicine at Livasa Hospital, Khanna, stated that the patient's condition was critical at the time of admission, and he required immediate intensive care.
The patient underwent blood transfusions and was administered broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics to control the severe sepsis. Following treatment, the patient's clinical condition showed remarkable improvement; his vital parameters stabilized, and both the severe infection and anemia improved. Subsequently, the patient was discharged from the hospital in a hemodynamically stable condition to receive further specialized care.
