DistrictLevel Committee Meeting Held Under Prevention of Atrocities Act
Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 15, 2026:- As per the directions of Smt. Komal Mittal, Deputy Commissioner, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, the district-level committee meeting for the second quarter of the year under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, was held today at the District Administrative Complex, SAS Nagar, under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (RD) Smt. Sonam Chaudhary.
During the meeting, Mr. Ashish Kathuria, District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer-cum-Member Secretary, briefed the committee about the progress of cases registered under the Act. He stated that 12 cases are currently pending before various courts, out of which compensation has already been provided to victims in 6 cases, while compensation will be provided to victims in 3 cases shortly. Action is ongoing in the remaining 3 cases.
He further informed that 17 cases are under investigation at the SSP office. The meeting reviewed the investigation of these cases and the action being taken to ensure timely payment of due compensation and provision of other assistance to the victims.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (RD) Smt. Sonam Chaudhary directed the Police Department to create maximum awareness among victims regarding the rules and criteria of the scheme concerning compensation and other facilities under the Act, so that they can avail themselves of the facilities being provided by the government in a timely manner.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Hardeep Singh, District Attorney, Mr. Ramandeep Singh, Punjab Police, Mr. Gurcharan Singh Mann, Agriculture Department, SAS Nagar, besides non-official committee members Mr. Gurcharan Singh and Mr. Gurpreet Singh.
