Congress sets out to convey public grievances to the administration
Karnal, July 16: Led by Parag Gaba, District President of the District Congress Committee (Urban), Karnal, a detailed memorandum regarding critical public interest issues concerning Karnal city was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner today. The memorandum demanded immediate and effective action regarding the city's dilapidated healthcare services, crumbling roads, the incomplete single-pillar flyover, the chaotic traffic system, and the hardships faced by the general public following the city's inclusion in the NCR.
Parag Gaba stated that the people of Karnal have been struggling for basic amenities for years. Despite grand claims of development, patients still wander in search of better treatment, people are forced to risk their lives traveling on broken roads, and there appears to be no permanent solution to daily hardships. The public wants change on the ground, not speeches.
He remarked that it is extremely unfortunate that life-saving facilities like dialysis have not yet commenced at the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital. Referring critically ill patients to other hospitals exacerbates their financial, mental, and physical suffering. He urged for the immediate filling of vacancies for doctors, nursing staff, and other employees, and insisted that the power supply and generators remain functional at all times to ensure no patient loses their life due to negligence.
The memorandum demanded a special survey of the city's broken and dilapidated roads—including Sector-6 and Shaheed Udham Singh Marg—followed by their reconstruction on a priority basis. It also called for the completion of the long-pending single-pillar flyover on a war footing, a permanent solution to the waterlogging beneath it, and safety improvements for the section descending towards Railway Road.
Parag Gaba stated that improving the city's traffic system is the need of the hour, and maintaining law and order is the administration's responsibility. While the Congress advocates for adherence to rules and discipline, the harassment of ordinary citizens in the name of 'system' cannot be accepted at any cost. He stated that businesses are already reeling under the impact of an economic slowdown. Small shopkeepers, traders, and middle-class families are struggling to make ends meet. At such a time, the imposition of hefty fines, the impounding of vehicles, and the financial burden placed on people for minor infractions are only compounding their hardships. The objective of the law should be to provide relief to the public, not to force them to live in fear and under financial duress.
Parag Gaba also expressed serious concern regarding the current process of obtaining a driving license, noting that the procedure in Karnal has been made unnecessarily complicated for the common citizen. The testing process has been made so difficult that ordinary people repeatedly fail, and it takes months to secure a license. Consequently, many are falling victim to heavy fines. He asserted that before enforcing strict rules, it is the administration's responsibility to make the system simple, transparent, and citizen-friendly. The driving test process should undergo an impartial review; unnecessary complexities should be removed; and a system should be established that allows eligible individuals to easily obtain a valid driving license. Only when the system is user-friendly for citizens can rules be effectively followed.
Parag Gaba stated that this memorandum was submitted not for any political motive, but to convey the genuine problems and grievances of the people of Karnal to the administration. Acting as the voice of the public, the District Congress Committee (Urban), Karnal, will continue to raise every issue concerning the lives, safety, employment, and dignity of the common citizen.
He warned that if timely action is not taken on these public-interest issues, the District Congress Committee (Urban), Karnal, would be compelled to launch a public movement in a democratic and peaceful manner, alongside the people.
In conclusion, Parag Gaba said, "A sensitive administration is one that understands the compulsions of the public. The people of Karnal need cooperation, not punishment; solutions, not problems; and tangible development on the ground, not hollow promises. The Congress will stand as the voice of every family whose hopes for justice from the system remain unfulfilled." On this occasion, District Congress Committee (Urban) Karnal President Parag Gaba was joined by numerous Congress workers and office-bearers, including Joginder Valmiki, Binder Poswal, Dilsher Dochar, Tarun Chauhan, Lalit Ahuja, Sandeep Mahajan (Deepak), Jeet Ram Kashyap, Om Prakash Saluja, Manoj Wadhwa, Nishchay Sohi, Satish Bindal, Soni Sharma Kutel, Rajat Lathar, Sumit Madan, Brij Bhushan Sharma, Rajiv Gondar, Lalit Butana, Amar Singh Ranga, Rajendra Kalyan, Rajindra Balla, Surendra Nambardar, Ladi Sandhu, Suresh Chaudhary, Parveen Punia, Dharmbir Punia, C.R.
