Childhood Blossoms with Joyful Learning Activities on ECCE Day at Anganwadi Centres

Sangrur, September 11:- As per the directions of the Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development, Punjab, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Day was observed at various Anganwadi centres across Sangrur district. Under the guidance of District Programme Officer Pradeep Singh Gill, children aged 0 to 6 years were provided opportunities to learn through play and creative activities.
Pradeep Singh Gill said that the early years of a child’s life lay the foundation for their thinking, understanding and personality. Therefore, a learning environment is being created at Anganwadi centres where children are encouraged to learn through play, ask questions, identify objects and express their thoughts without any pressure.
On the occasion of ECCE Day, children were introduced to different colours by showing them coloured lids and other available materials. Questions were asked by relating colours such as yellow, blue and red to objects in their surroundings. The children enthusiastically identified the colours of bananas, clothes, toys and other objects and responded to the questions. Thereafter, an activity was also conducted in which lids of the same colour were separated and sorted.
Gill said that such simple yet creative activities help children develop colour recognition, sorting skills, logical thinking, concentration and problem-solving abilities. These activities also enhance children’s curiosity and self-confidence towards learning. Panchayat members, members of local youth clubs, ASHA workers/ANMs and other prominent persons also participated in the activities along with children and parents.
The District Programme Officer encouraged Anganwadi workers to continuously conduct age-appropriate, interesting and child-centred activities and said that linking learning with joy and play during childhood is highly meaningful for the overall development of children.
