Ban on Hill Cutting in Una Until September 30 Due to Monsoon

Una, July 7: In view of the continuous rainfall in Una district and the potential risk of disasters during the monsoon, the district administration has imposed a complete ban on any form of hill cutting for private development and construction activities until September 30 as a precautionary measure. Jatin Lal, District Magistrate and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Una, has issued orders to this effect. These orders come into immediate effect.
The orders state that the monsoon has been active in the district since June 30, and incidents of damage have been reported in various areas due to continuous and heavy rainfall. The district administration is engaged in relief, rehabilitation, and the restoration of essential services. This decision has been taken as a precaution, considering the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the coming days.
According to the orders, unregulated hill cutting and unplanned construction activities during the monsoon can weaken the geological structure. This increases the risk of landslides and damage to buildings and other infrastructure, as well as the potential loss of life and property. The ban has been imposed to ensure the safety of the district's sensitive ecosystem and infrastructure and to prevent potential disasters.
The orders specify that, with the exception of reconstruction work on roads and other essential infrastructure damaged by the disaster, any form of hill cutting for private development and construction activities remains prohibited until September 30.
The District Magistrate has directed all Sub-Divisional Officers (Civil) and Executive Magistrates to ensure strict compliance with these orders. Legal action will be taken against violators under Section 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
