A cyber and digital security awareness workshop was held in Basal

Una, February 10: To commemorate Safer Internet Day, a cyber awareness workshop was organized at the Government Senior Secondary School for Excellence, Basal. Bhupinder Singh, District Informatics Officer, National Informatics Center (NIC), Una, educated students and teachers on the safe, responsible, and effective use of the internet.
Approximately 62 students and 12 teachers participated in the workshop. Participants were provided with valuable information regarding safe internet use in daily life, cyber hygiene, and digital ethics.
Bhupinder Singh discussed in detail the importance of strong passwords, safe browsing habits, identifying phishing attempts, and protecting personal data. He also raised awareness among participants about current issues such as cyberbullying, fake news, digital arrests, and the misuse of social media. A practical demonstration was also provided on the cyber incident reporting process and the use of government portals available for online safety.
In addition, the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies such as voice assistance, image recognition, streaming suggestions, product recommendations, and fraud detection was also highlighted. Students and teachers were also made aware of AI-based cyber threats such as deepfake videos and fake voice calls. He emphasized that creating a safe internet is a shared responsibility of all users.
The school's Principal, Pradeep Kumar, e-District Manager Sahil Sharma from the Department of Digital Technologies and Governance, along with the school staff, were also present at the event.
