Water will be released from Pong Dam, no need to panic: Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain.

Hoshiarpur- Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain assured the citizens of the district that information has been received about the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) opening the flood gates of Pong Dam and releasing 11500 cusecs of water into Mukerian Hydel Canal and 11500 cusecs of water into Beas River.

She clarified that this is a routine process, which is done every year during the flood season and there is no need to worry or panic about it. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that the district administration is in constant touch with BBMB and the water level of Pong Dam is being closely monitored.
There is no emergency situation in the district at present. He said that the administration has already taken all necessary precautionary measures and has appealed to the citizens not to pay attention to any kind of rumours and not to spread them. He said that the SDMs of Dasuha and Mukerian have been instructed to be vigilant in those villages where flood-like situation had occurred due to rising water in the past years.
This step has been taken only as a precautionary measure so that the people can be alerted in time and they do not have to face any kind of inconvenience. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain assured that the district administration is fully prepared to deal with every possible situation. If any emergency arises at any time, relief and rescue operations, health facilities, food supply and all other necessary arrangements have already been ensured.
Instructions have already been issued to the concerned departments to be alert and take immediate action. He appealed to all the citizens of the district to have full faith in the administration and avoid unnecessary panic. The district administration is monitoring the situation with utmost vigilance and all steps are being taken in the public interest.
