Pune University cheated of Rs 2.46 crore, engineer arrested.

Pune- The Pune police have arrested a Telangana-based electronics engineer, who holds a doctorate (PhD) degree from a UK-based university. He is accused of committing an online fraud of Rs 2.46 crore from a private university.

Officials said that the university had filed a complaint with the police in the first week of September that the institution was allegedly duped of Rs 2.46 crore by an online fraudster, who posed as a professor from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
A police release said on Wednesday that the fraudster had promised to help the Pune-based university officials in getting a project from IIT Bombay.
The alleged online fraud took place between July 25 and August 26 this year, during which the fraudster 2.46 crores by impersonating a professor of the university and defrauding him of Rs. 2.46 crores by transferring them to different accounts.
A team of the Cyber ??Crime Police Station started investigating the matter and nabbed the suspect, identified as Seethaiah Kilaru (34) of Yapraal, Hyderabad, Telangana.
A police officer said, “He is the mastermind of this case and was arrested on September 21. The accused is an electronics and telecommunication engineer from Telangana and holds a Ph.D. degree from a UK-based university.
During investigation, he told us that he had cleared the UPSC prelims and mains exams in 2019-20.” After being arrested, Kilaru was produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody till September 28.
