
Awareness program on POCSO Act and Child Rights by District Child Protection Unit
Nawanshahr - As per the guidelines received from District Program Officer Jagroop Singh, an awareness program was organized at Government Primary Smart School, Garhshankar Road, Nawanshahr under the leadership of District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora; today on the occasion of Cham Bal Diwas, an awareness program was organized to make children aware about Child Rights and POCSO Act.
Nawanshahr - As per the guidelines received from District Program Officer Jagroop Singh, an awareness program was organized at Government Primary Smart School, Garhshankar Road, Nawanshahr under the leadership of District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora; today on the occasion of Cham Bal Diwas, an awareness program was organized to make children aware about Child Rights and POCSO Act.
During this, Gaurav Sharma Child Protection Officer (IC) gave information about POCSO Act and Child Rights and said that it is necessary to have a safe environment for the all-round development of boys and girls. To create which, the government has implemented the POCSO Act to provide legal protection to children, so that children from zero to 18 years do not have to face any kind of exploitation.
He informed that under the POCSO Act, there is a provision of strictest punishment for any person who misbehaves with children from zero to 18 years. He asked the school teachers to discuss this sensitive topic openly with the children, so that the children can know about good and bad behavior.
Gaurav Sharma informed the children about good touch and bad touch and said that if any child faces any kind of misbehavior, he can tell his parents or his teacher without hesitation. So that appropriate action can be taken against the misbehaving person under the POCSO Act with the help of the police department.
Apart from this, Kanta, who is posted as an outreach worker under the Child Protection Unit, informed about the sponsorship and foster care scheme provided to the children and the financial assistance provided to the needy and helpless children to continue their education. And he said that financial assistance of Rs. 4 thousand per month is provided under the sponsorship and foster care scheme run by the government to provide education and basic facilities to the needy and helpless children.
This scheme can be availed by two children of a family, any widow, divorced woman or single parent and such children whose parents are suffering from any incurable disease. Or one of the parents of the children is in jail, such children are covered under the sponsorship scheme.
If any needy and helpless child wants to avail the scheme, then he can contact the District Administrative Complex, 3rd Floor, Room No. 413. Apart from this, the children were informed about the Child Line No. 1098. Refreshments were also given to the children during the program.
