2 arrested in cross-border drug smuggling case

Amritsar, June 13 – Punjab Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range Amritsar has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling racket by arresting two smugglers. 4.5 kg heroin and drug money worth Rs 11 lakh have been recovered from the possession of the smugglers. Amritsar, June 13 – Punjab Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range Amritsar has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling racket by arresting two smugglers. 4.5 kg heroin and drug money worth Rs 11 lakh have been recovered from the possession of the smugglers. This information was given by DGP Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gurbhej Singh alias Bheja, resident of village Dhanoy Khurd and currently residing in village Rattan and Abhijit Singh alias Happy, resident of village Mahal and currently residing in Bhalla Colony Chheharta, Amritsar.
The DGP said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused Gurbhej was in direct contact with Pakistan-based smuggler Rana and was coordinating for the delivery of the consignment. He said that a few days before his arrest, he had contacted a Pakistan-based smuggler and arranged for the shipment of this heroin through a drone. The accused had also involved Abhijit Singh along with his other accomplices in this operation.
The DGP said that based on reliable intelligence, teams of ANTF Border Range Amritsar arrested both the accused while trying to sell the heroin further. Apart from recovering heroin and drug money from their possession, the police have also seized their scooter, which was without a number plate.
He said that further investigation is underway to dismantle the entire supply chain and more arrests and recoveries are likely to be made in the coming days. In this regard, a case has been registered at ANTF, SAS Nagar police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
