Chandigarh, June 14 - Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini and Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal on Saturday jointly visited the Haryana Atomic Power Project in Gorakhpur, Fatehabad. During this, Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction work here and directed the officials to complete the various ongoing construction works as per the set standards at the earliest. He said that nuclear energy is a source of better energy generation in terms of environment. In the review meeting, Project Director of NPCIL, Mr. Jitendra Kumar Jain, gave a presentation about the work of the Department of Atomic Energy and NPCIL, besides increasing nuclear power generation, construction work of Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Plant, CSR and awareness programs. Union Power Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal said that this important project will not only meet the long-term energy needs of Haryana but also North India. It will also further strengthen the commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions. He said that such projects will play an important role in helping the country achieve the goal of net zero carbon emissions by the year 2070. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, this project is a visionary step towards making the country a leader in the field of nuclear energy and ensuring self-reliance.
During the review meeting, the Union Minister got detailed information about the ongoing construction works and directed the officials to complete the works on time as per the set standards keeping in mind the safety. He said that maximum people should be made aware so that there is no doubt in the general public about nuclear safety. They should also go among the people in the nearby area and tell them about nuclear safety.
While directing the officials, the Union Minister said that for better utilization of the CLR fund, they should coordinate with the administrative officers and public representatives and prioritize visionary development works. The Union Minister said that this project will play an important role in Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's goal of making the country a developed India by the year 2047. He said that nuclear power plants are cheaper in the long run compared to other sources of energy production and the problem of pollution is also negligible. Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal said that more than 20000 trees will be planted in the nuclear plant premises in the upcoming monsoon season.
The Union Minister said that all the states have also been appealed to set up at least one nuclear power plant wherever there is a possibility of setting up a nuclear plant and to work for the expansion of the plants already in place. Shri Manohar Lal said that for better results, the construction work of this project should be completed as soon as possible and if any problem arises, the Central and State Governments should be informed. Before the review meeting, Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini and Kandri Minister Shri Manohar Lal were welcomed by the NPCIL officials with shawls and mementos on their arrival at Anushilp Bhawan.
After the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini and Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal also inspected the construction work while visiting the site. He said that along with the completion of the construction work of one project, the officials should also prepare an outline for the completion of the construction work of the other project. On this occasion, Rajya Sabha MP Mr. Subhash Barala, Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary (Power) Mr. Apurv Kumar Singh, Member CEA Mr. Ajay Tajegaonkar, Director HRPA Mr. Suresh Babu, Director Projects Mr. N. K. Mitrewal, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Singla, Mr. H. K. Nagotia and other dignitaries and officials were present.
