Tribute ceremony dedicated to the initial officer and social worker of the blood donation movement.

Nawanshahr- About 35 years ago, a team of local social workers raised the need to create awareness about the fear and superstition spread in the area regarding blood donation and continuously expanded it and got the charitable BDC blood center established on the local Rahon Road constructed.

It was inaugurated by Bhagat Puran Singh (founder Pingalwara) with his own hands on the occasion of Baisakhi in the year 1992. Pushp Raj Kalia, one of the leading social workers of this movement, had passed away. His tribute ceremony was organized at Shri Vishwakarma Temple with the cooperation of the local Blood Donor Council.
It was told in the ceremony that the organization of which Kalia was the founder officer, has so far organized 1813 blood donation camps and 700 free blood grouping camps through 373 motivators. Two doctors and 34 employees are dedicated to serving the needy in the blood donation center which runs day and night.
Besides family members and relatives, those present at today’s condolence meeting were Avtar Singh Karimpuri, President BSP Punjab, Lalit Mohan Pathak Ballu, Constituency Incharge Aam Aadmi Party, Gur Iqbal Babli and Angad Singh former MLA from Nawanshahr, Harmesh Puri District President, G.S. Chawla, State General Secretary Chemist Association, Bhag Singh, former State Drug Controller Punjab, Satbir Singh Palli Jhikki constituency in-charge Congress Committee Banga, Dr. Kamal, Makhan Singh Grewal, Gurmukh North Vice President Municipal Council, BDC Chairman SK Sareen, Secretary JS Gidda, Finance Secretary Parvesh Kumar, Dr. Ajay Bagga, Surinder Kaur Toor, Noble Sareen Advocate, Mrs. Neelam Kaushal, Manmeet Singh Manager, Narinder Singh Bharta, Road Safety Narinderpal Toor, Principal Bikramjit Singh, Lata Negi, Om Prakash Sharma, Chaman Singh Director De-addiction Centre, Yogesh, Pramod Bharti, Amit Sharma, Vivek Markanda, Jasbir Singh Noorpur, Didar Singh Shetra, Harminder Pintu, Gurcharan Arora, Pradeep Bhanot, Dr. JD Verma, Rattan Lal Jain, Manohar Lal, Dr. Avtar Singh, Vasdev Pardesi, Mr. Raman Kumar Senior Citizen, Mr. Tripathi Hindi Jagran, Jatinderpal Singh Kaler, Bakshi Advocate, Parminder Singh Kalsi, BDC employees and a large number of city residents were present.
Members of the Kalahiya family were Madam Rajni Kalahiya, brother Manoranjan Kalahiya, Ritu Kalahiya, Sadna Sharma, Mukesh Sharma, Meenakshi Sharma, Deepti, Yuvraj, Tanvi, Omsi and Navdeep Singh Dhillon. In the end, Shri Avtar Singh Karimpuri thanked the congregation.
