
Appropriate action will be taken against child and bonded labour in the district: Assistant Labour Commissioner

Assistant Labour Commissioner J.S. Kang said that the Labour Department is making continuous efforts for the welfare and empowerment of workers in the district. He said that during the last two months, 113 cases of gratuity, 35 cases related to minimum wages and 3 cases related to the Employees Compensation Act were settled in the district. He said that the District Task Force is taking necessary action against child labour and bonded labour.
He said that 4 children freed from child labour in the month of March were presented before the Child Welfare Committee. Regarding the Building and Other Construction Workers Act, the Assistant Labour Commissioner said that a helpdesk has been set up for the welfare of construction workers, so that the benefits of welfare schemes related to these workers can be provided easily.
He informed that during the last two months 246 applications were processed under various schemes and these applications were forwarded for payment of Rs 28.97 lakh. He said that applications related to welfare schemes can now be directly forwarded by the Assistant Labour Commissioner to the Secretary of the Board for payment.
He said that applications related to welfare of workers should be processed promptly by the Punjab Labour Welfare Board. He said that construction workers can now register through Punjab Building & Other Construction Welfare Board through Punjab Kirti Sahayak App. He said that the Labour Department is working tirelessly for empowerment, further development and welfare of the stakeholders.
