Derabassi, August 7: Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today visited Baltana and Mubarikpur to assess the situation following the recent overflow caused by the release of excess water from Sukhna Head. She assured residents that the District Administration is keeping a close watch on all vulnerable points along the Sukhna Choe and Ghaggar River in the district.
Appealing to residents living near the riverbanks, the Deputy Commissioner urged them to stay away from the banks of both Sukhna Choe and Ghaggar River in view of the risk of flooding due to fluctuating water discharge levels.
She informed that the recent overflow had caused a crack at the Tiwana Bank of Ghaggar, and the Drainage Department was immediately deployed to carry out repair works. Taking cognizance of public demand, she said the Public Works Department has been directed to explore the feasibility of constructing a bridge in place of the Mubarikpur causeway.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal also instructed officials of the Drainage Department and Local Bodies to expedite the desilting process to ensure uninterrupted flow of water in Sukhna Choe.
She further directed SDM Derabassi, Amit Gupta, to personally monitor the desilting and strengthening operations to prevent any untoward incident during the ongoing rainy season.
SDM Amit Gupta apprised the Deputy Commissioner that the water level in Sukhna Choe has now returned to normal after peaking at 55,000 cusecs during the flooding.
