Gold worth Rs 12.56 crore seized from Kannada actress

Bengaluru: The value of gold bars seized from Kannada actress Ranya Rao at the Kempegowda International Airport here was Rs 12.56 crore, the Revenue Intelligence Directorate said on Wednesday. A senior police official told PTI that Rao is the stepdaughter of senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, who is currently serving as the Director-General of the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation.

The total seizure in the case was Rs 17.29 crore, which included assets worth Rs 4.73 crore. According to officials, the 14.2 kg gold is one of the biggest seizures made from the Bengaluru airport in recent times. According to the Finance Ministry, acting on intelligence inputs, DRI officials intercepted an Indian female passenger, aged around 33, who had arrived in Bengaluru from Dubai on an Emirates flight on March 3.
