18 February Nawanshahr- During the seminar at Red Cross Integrated Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Centre Nawanshahr, Deputy Group Education and Information Officer Tarsem Lal made the patients admitted in the centre aware about rabies, malaria and drugs under the National Health Programme. The seminar was chaired by the centre's Project Director Chaman Singh.
On this occasion, Tarsem Lal made them aware about the side effects of drugs and ways to prevent them and told about the prevention of dog bite, snake bite and malaria. He explained in detail that a person can get a disease called rabies due to dog bite. To prevent this, a person can get free treatment in a government hospital, which can prevent rabies.
He said that malaria is spread by mosquito bites, which are spread by protozoa parasites. The carrier of malaria parasite is female Anopheles mosquito. He said that "wherever there is stagnant water, mosquitoes spreading malaria and dengue will flourish." He said that malarial parasites enter the red blood cells when bitten by a mosquito, which leads to symptoms of anemia (dizziness, breathlessness, nervousness, etc.). Apart from this, symptoms like fever, cold along with shivering are also seen.
He said that many measures can be taken to prevent the spread of malaria. Mosquito nets and insecticides etc. protect against mosquito bites, so mosquitoes can be controlled by spraying insecticides and removing stagnant water (on which mosquitoes lay eggs). He said that the nearest health center can be contacted to prevent malaria.
He also gave information about the side effects of medicines and also explained in detail about the diseases caused by drugs. On this occasion, the project director of the center, Chaman Singh, also made the patients aware to stay away from drugs. He said that in case of dog or snake bite, first of all medical help should be taken from a government hospital. The government provides complete treatment free of cost.
He said that people who consume drugs become mentally and physically ill. That is why we should always stay away from addiction. On this occasion Jaswinder Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur, Dinesh Kumar, Manjit Singh, Parveen Kumari, Kamala Rani, Manjot, Parvesh Kumar, Kamala Rani, patients and their families were present.
