Hisar, March 5: District Sukoon Counselor Rahul Sharma, working in the District Civil Sukoon, explained that women's lives are full of struggles. From conception to old age, they face various forms of discrimination and violence. Problems such as violence during pregnancy, discrimination in childhood care, child marriage, molestation and sexual harassment during adolescence still persist in society. In adulthood, many women also face domestic violence, dowry harassment, and other crimes.
He explained that despite all these challenges, women constantly struggle for their families and manage their families while fulfilling their duties. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every person in society to ensure the safety and respect of women. To this end, the Haryana Government's Health Department and the Haryana State Health Resource Center have established Sukoon Centers in civil hospitals at the district level, ensuring timely assistance and protection for women suffering from violence.
The Sukoon Center, established in Room No. 24 of the Civil Hospital in Hisar district, is providing assistance to women affected by harassment, assault, coercion, sexual harassment, exploitation, and domestic disputes.
From March 2022 to February 2026, Sukoon Center Hisar has provided assistance to 900 women and children affected by violence. In these cases, the victims were provided free police assistance, counseling, legal aid, medical treatment, and other necessary support.
Case 1: Assistance provided to a widowed woman -
A woman in Hisar district lost her husband suddenly. Subsequently, her in-laws expelled her from the house and refused to give her a share in her husband's property. Distressed by this mental and social harassment, the woman approached Sukoon Center for assistance. She was educated about women's rights, informed about the Domestic Violence Act, and informed about the free legal aid available through the District Legal Services Authority. Through counseling, the woman's confidence was boosted and she was provided guidance in seeking justice.
Case 2: Counseling Helps a Woman -
A woman from Hisar district was married in Fatehabad district. Her husband's constant beatings and abuse under the influence of alcohol caused her to become mentally distressed. During this time, she traveled to Hisar to meet an Instagram friend, which her in-laws learned about, and they threatened to kill her.
Out of fear, the woman signed a live-in agreement with the man, but he also left her shortly after. In this situation, the woman found neither a place at her in-laws' home nor support at her parents'. Due to the extreme mental stress, she repeatedly experienced suicidal thoughts.
During this difficult time, the woman sought help at the Sukoon Kendra, where she received counseling and was provided with accommodation and food. A complaint was subsequently filed at the women's police station, and with the assistance of the police station, the matter was resolved and the woman was safely transported to her in-laws' home.
District Sukoon Counselor Rahul Sharma said that every person in the society should fulfill his responsibility to prevent domestic violence, because the impact of domestic violence is not limited to husband and wife only, but it also has a deep negative impact on the mental and social development of children.
