S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), August 3:- The 21st District Athletics Championship, organised by the District Athletics Association on August 1 and 2, concluded successfully after two days of spirited competition. The championship featured events in the Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20, Open Men and Women categories, as well as competitions for para-athletes.
District Athletics Association President S. Malkit Singh Baidwan informed that nearly 300 athletes enthusiastically participated in the two-day sporting event. He stated that the championship was conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Athletics Federation of India. The winners were honoured with medals and certificates. He further informed that athletes who delivered outstanding performances during the championship have been selected to represent the district in the State Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held on August 16 at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana.
The championship was inaugurated jointly by Jaspreet Kaur Bains, Principal of Government College, Mohali, and Deputy Mayor Harpal Singh Channa.
The closing and prize distribution ceremony was graced by Mayor of the Municipal Corporation, Mohali, S. Sarabjit Singh Samana, as the Chief Guest. He presented medals and certificates to the winning athletes and congratulated them on their achievements. Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that sports instil discipline, promote a healthy lifestyle, and inspire a spirit of service to the nation among the youth. He also appreciated the District Athletics Association for its continuous efforts to promote sports and nurture young sporting talent.
Among those present on the occasion were Engineer Harpreet Singh Kora, Amrik Singh (Former Sarpanch, Matour), Paramdeep Singh Baidwan, Kulwinder Kaur (MC), Tarlochan Singh Baidwan, Surjit Singh (MC), Narpinder Singh Rangi (MC), Satvir Singh Dhanoa, Dr. Kuljit Singh Mianpuri, Satish Kumar Bhagi, Gurpreet Kaur (MC), and Prof. Simarjeet Kaur, along with several other distinguished guests.
District Athletics Association General Secretary S.I.S. Kora expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, coaches, officials, athletes, and volunteers for their valuable support in making the championship a success. Those who rendered their services during the event included Dr. Swaran Singh, Pritam Singh, Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Pradeep Singh Baidwan, Simran Singh, Rama Shankar, Gurminder Singh Dhesi, Harkanwaljit Singh (National Coach), Ram Kumar, Mandeep Kaur, Sandeep Bansal, Monica Bansal, Gurmeet Singh, Iqbal Singh, Jeet Singh, Darinder Singh, Hem Raj, Gurjit Singh Dhanoa, Ranvir Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Gurjit Singh, and Balwinder Singh Mianpur.
Yadavindra Public School delivered an outstanding performance to emerge as the Overall Champion of the 21st District Athletics Championship.
