154 cases registered 216 accused arrested in district Sangrur under campaign against drugs

Sangrur:- District Police Sangrur busted an inter-state gang stealing material of mobile towers and arrested 06 accused and recovered 16 BTS cards, 01 cutter, 01 pliers, 01 screwdriver, 01 Swift car and 01 Tempo from them.
05 accused of gang involved in firing/quarrel in the area of Police Station City Sangrur were nabbed, and 01 country-made pistol .315 bore along with 01 empty cartridge and 01 motorcycle were recovered from them.
24 accused involved in thefts/robberies in the area of Police Station Dirba, Sadar Dhuri, Bhawanigarh, City Sangrur, City-1 Sangrur and Khanauri were arrested, and 04 mobile phones, 01 scooty, 16 motorcycles, 08 kg 425 gram copper, 322 feet wire, 18 pipes, 21 channels, 40 feet iron rods, 20 feet iron pipe, 02 iron sheets, 01 iron handcart and gold/silver jewellery were recovered from them.
On date 31.08.2026, illegal property built by 01 drug smuggler in city Sunam by drug trafficking was demolished by Sangrur Administration by running bulldozer.
Property worth Rs 82,000/- of 01 drug smuggler was frozen by Police Station Lehra.
Dr. Ravjot Grewal IPS, SSP Sangrur while informing the press said that District Police Sangrur during the campaign "Yudh Nashian Virudh" and "Pindan De Pehredar" taking action from date 01.08.2026 to 31.08.2026 registered 115 cases of drugs and nabbed 173 accused and recovered 01 kg 378 gram heroin, 20 gram smack, 213 kg 588 gram poppy husk, 60 gram charas, 02 kg 149 gram sulfa/ganja, 28 intoxicant injections and 1281 intoxicant tablets.
39 cases were registered against those doing liquor business and 43 accused were nabbed and 1143.750 liters of country liquor vend, 104.250 liters illicit liquor, 63 liters English liquor and 660 liters lahan were recovered.
Apart from this, 02 cases were registered under Arms Act and 04 accused were nabbed, from whom 04 pistols and 03 cartridges were recovered.
Public was also appealed to cooperate in anti-drug campaign. General public is being made aware about ill effects of drugs by holding meetings/contact meetings with Panchayats/Sports Clubs/respectable persons.
During this period, various Gazetted Officers/SHOs held meetings with general public in 93 villages/cities and made youth aware about ill effects of drugs and motivated general public to give information to police about smugglers doing drug business so that menace of drugs can be eradicated from root.
Solid efforts are being made to prevent drugs by taking action against drug peddlers and bad elements. War against drugs continues.
