SAS Nagar, September 03:- Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma, IPS, officially assumed charge of District SAS Nagar today. Addressing the media during his maiden press briefing, the SSP outlined his strategic priorities, reaffirming the Punjab Police’s commitment to citizen safety, organized crime eradication, and accessible administration. SSP Sharma extended his gratitude to the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, for placing trust in him to lead the district force and maintain law and order across the region.
Listing his key priorities during media briefing Zero Tolerance for Organized Crime & Gangsters and reiterating a firm stance against criminal syndicates, the SSP warned that organized crime, extortion rackets, and gangster networks will be dealt with using a heavy hand.
He added that to deter street crime and maintain vigilance, Mohali Police will intensify night domination operations, deploy strategic static and roving checkpoints (nakabandi), and increase the visibility of Dial 112 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) for rapid intervention during scuffles and emergencies.
Emphasizing accessibility, SSP Sharma stated that he will personally hear public grievances during fixed office hours. Citizens are encouraged to share information regarding drug peddlers, criminal elements, cyber fraud, and domestic violence, assuring time-bound grievance resolution.
Speaking on Community Engagement & Confidence-Building, he said that the district police will actively partner with Market Associations, Trader Associations, and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to address grassroots security and administrative concerns.
Highlighting Mohali’s vital positioning within the Tricity network, the SSP stressed that during any sit-ins or demonstrations, the department's top priority will be proactive traffic management to prevent commuter disruption and ensure free movement for ambulances, school vehicles, and essential services.
He said that in line with state authorities directives, a comprehensive manpower audit will be conducted to optimize police strength. Personnel will be systematically reallocated from non-core duties to frontline core policing, reinforcing police stations and ground units.
Earlier, the SSP was accorded a warm welcome by the local Police officers including SP (City) Dilpreet Singh, SP (H) Navreet Singh Virk, SP (Investigation) Sourav Jindal besides a traditional Gurad of Honour by the Police Contingent.
