Washington/America:- The United States has admitted for the first time that it has deployed weapons in space. US Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink provided this information on Monday. He said the US has weapons in orbit that are capable of protecting American troops from enemy attacks when required.
The US official did not disclose the type or number of these weapons, nor did he say when they were sent into space. The disclosure comes amid a race between the United States, Russia and China to expand their capabilities in space. It has also raised concerns that the arms race in space could intensify further.
The United States has long expressed concern over the expansion of Russia and China's space-based military capabilities. Satellites have become extremely important in modern warfare.
Military forces use them for communications, navigation, intelligence gathering and missile tracking. As a result, an attack on a country's satellites can weaken its military strength. Therefore, major military powers are no longer focusing only on building new satellites; they are also developing capabilities to protect their satellites from enemy attacks and, when necessary, disable the space systems of other countries.
Experts fear that following the US disclosure, Russia and China could also expand their military capabilities in space. They may describe the US move as a threat to their security to justify the development of new technologies and weapons. In this way, the military preparations of one country can encourage other countries to strengthen their own capabilities, potentially accelerating the arms race in space.
