Una, October 31 - Deputy Commissioner Una, Jatin Lal, has taken serious note of cases of school students riding scooters or bikes to school and has directed to curb this trend. He stated that the safety of children is the district administration's top priority.
The Deputy Commissioner directed Education Department officials to issue clear instructions to every school in this regard. He stated that if any random inspection finds a student's scooter or bike parked in a school, the principal of the school concerned will be held accountable.
He chaired a meeting of the District-Level Road Safety Committee on Friday. Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav, all SDMs, officers from the police, public works, and other departments were present at the meeting.
The DC directed SDMs and police officers to maintain special vigilance during commuting times around schools. If any officer sees minor children riding scooters or bikes, they should take immediate action and involve school principals and parents.
He directed the Education Department to make special efforts to increase road safety awareness among students in grades 9th to 12th. Every month, all schools in the district must organize some road safety awareness activity, and efforts should also be made to educate parents in this regard. The department should submit regular reports of these awareness activities to the DC's office.
At the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the RTO to issue fitness certificates to school buses and vehicles only after thorough inspections. No laxity or negligence should be shown in this regard.

**Special Emphasis on Black Spot Remediation**
The Deputy Commissioner directed the district to identify accident-prone areas and black spots and to promptly rectify them. He directed special attention to the sensitive Gagret and Amb subdivisions.
In this regard, NH officials, police, and the concerned SDM have been directed to conduct joint inspections of Banne Di Hatti, Daulatpur Chowk, Baduhi, and other sensitive areas in the Gagret and Amb areas and to install necessary repairs, road signs, and rumble strips.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the installation of barricades and strengthening security measures in the Mehtpur area as needed. He also directed the installation of barricades for special security near schools located along the road.

**Respect for those helping road accident victims**
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the Una District Administration has taken the initiative to honor sensitive citizens who assist those injured in road accidents. The District Administration has made provision for providing a cash incentive of ?25,000 to such generous helpers. This amount will be in addition to the ?25,000 provided under the Central Government's Good Samaritan Scheme.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the objective of this initiative is to motivate people to provide timely assistance to those in need. He directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates to identify such cases and submit proposals for incentives and recognition.
He urged all departments to make coordinated efforts to ensure safe, encroachment-free, and risk-free traffic. Pre-emptive corrective measures should be taken to reduce accidents and strict adherence to traffic rules should be ensured.

**He also directed the removal of illegal street vendors and encroachments**
He stressed the need to strictly enforce road safety laws in Una district. He stated that overspeeding and reckless overtaking are major causes of accidents, and that those who commit such acts should be dealt with strictly.
Supporter of Police Amit Yadav shared details of recent road accidents in the district and emphasized the need to focus on improving high-risk areas. He stated that the police department is committed to ensuring compliance with traffic rules.
