Amritsar:- Counter Intelligence Amritsar has arrested two accused linked to illegal arms smuggling module running across the border along with ten foreign modern pistols. This information was given by DGP Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested persons have been identified as Resham Singh resident of Khushupura, Amritsar and Manpreet Singh resident of Khawaspur, Tarn Taran. The pistols recovered from them include a Turkish-made Zigana pistol, an Austrian-made Glock pistol, two American-made Beretta pistols, five PX-5 pistols and a Chinese-made Norinco pistol along with magazines. The police have also seized their black motorcycle used for delivery of consignments.
The DGP said that preliminary investigation has revealed that both the accused were working on the behest of a foreign gangster in coordination with smugglers based in Pakistan and were helping in smuggling illegal arms into India. He said that this consignment of arms was to be delivered to criminal elements across the state.
Giving information about this operation, he said that CI Amritsar had received a reliable information that a foreign gangster with the help of his associates present in Punjab was smuggling illegal arms from Pakistan to India through drones, under which Resham Singh has received the consignment of arms and on the instructions of the Pakistani smugglers, he will deliver this consignment to the suspect Manpreet Singh near village Kohali near the canal bridge on Chogawan road from Amritsar.
Acting immediately on this information, the police teams set up a checkpoint and arrested both the accused along with the consignment of arms.
