Chandigarh: Rajya Sabha MP and Padma Shri Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney was conferred an honorary doctorate by the Honorable President of India at the Golden Jubilee Convocation of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
This honorary doctorate was awarded to Dr. Sahney for his impactful social contributions in Punjab, particularly in flood relief and rehabilitation, drug de-addiction, and his extensive work in employment generation and skill development. His large-scale relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts during the recent Punjab floods, his continuous work towards drug de-addiction in Punjab, and the establishment of world-class skill centers to provide job-oriented skills to thousands of youth have made a significant contribution to livelihood restoration and youth empowerment.
On this occasion, the Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Gulab Chand Kataria, praised Dr. Sahney's social service, saying that Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney has proven that meaningful social change is possible through compassion, vision, and effective implementation. His work during the Punjab floods, his commitment to drug de-addiction, and his efforts to provide skills for dignified employment to over 5,000 young people will leave a lasting impact and serve as an inspiration for public life.”
Expressing his gratitude upon receiving the honorary doctorate from the President, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney said that he was deeply humbled and overwhelmed by this honor. He said that this honor inspires him to work with even greater dedication towards building a drug-free Punjab, empowered youth with employment, and strong and self-reliant communities.
