Chandigarh:- Problems are increasing for suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar of Punjab Police and his family, who are embroiled in a bribery case in Chandigarh. A special CBI court has ordered that all 26 bank accounts linked to Bhullar be frozen till the investigation is completed. Apart from this, the CBI's plea seeking day-to-day hearing of the case has already been dismissed.
The problems are also increasing for co-accused Krishna Sharda in the same case, as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now started an investigation in collaboration with the CBI. Meanwhile, raids were conducted at a total of 11 places, including Bhullar's house in Chandigarh.
According to sources, the ED may soon issue notices for questioning to several IAS and IPS officers of Punjab. The court also allowed the CBI's application for a preliminary inquiry (PE), paving the way for further proceedings in the case.
Earlier, the special court had dismissed the petition filed by DIG Bhullar and co-accused Krishna Sharda, challenging the court's order to take cognizance of the case. The investigating agency has found new and important evidence, based on which the roles of several IAS and IPS officers are also being investigated. As a result, the CBI has started a preliminary inquiry against unidentified officers.
