Chandigarh, October 13:- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini directed officials to identify suitable open spaces, in addition to mandis, for storing farmers’ crops during the Kharif Procurement Season 2026. Necessary arrangements should be made at these locations for farmers’ convenience, including fencing and other essential measures to ensure the safety of their crops. He said that farmers’ crops must not suffer any damage due to rain and that there should be no obstruction in the lifting of crops from mandis. Officials should complete all necessary arrangements well in advance of the procurement season.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini issued these directions while chairing a review meeting of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department in Chandigarh on Tuesday. He said the state government was committed to facilitating farmers and protecting the crops they had produced through their hard work. Adequate space should be made available for farmers to unload and store their crops during the procurement process so that order is maintained in mandis and farmers do not face any inconvenience while selling their produce.

Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Rajesh Nagar, Principal Secretary of the department Amneet P. Kumar, Director and Secretary of the department Anshaj Singh, Deputy Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Yashpal, and other senior departmental officials were present at the meeting.

Farmers’ Convenience and Crop Safety Are Government Priorities

The Chief Minister directed officials to identify locations beyond the mandis and make suitable arrangements for the safe storage of crops in open spaces. In particular, keeping the possibility of rain in mind, effective measures should be taken to protect crops from getting wet and ensure their timely lifting. The officials concerned should work in coordination so that the procurement process continues smoothly and farmers do not have to wait unnecessarily.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also appealed to farmers to unload their crops only at designated locations and avoid leaving them scattered elsewhere. This would help ensure the safe storage of crops and maintain an orderly procurement system in the mandis.

The Chief Minister said that providing better facilities to farmers and ensuring the safety of their produce during the Kharif Procurement Season were among the government’s highest priorities. Officials should therefore regularly monitor all arrangements and ensure that farmers face no difficulties from the time they bring their crops for sale until the produce is lifted.
