Una, June 3: On the occasion of World Environment Day, and with the objective of promoting public awareness regarding environmental conservation and sanitation, special Gram Sabha (village assembly) meetings will be organized in all Gram Panchayats across District Una on June 5th. In this regard, Una Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal has issued the necessary orders.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that, through these special meetings, detailed discussions will be held on various important topics aimed at strengthening the sense of collective responsibility towards environmental conservation in rural areas and fostering public participation. Special emphasis will be placed during the Gram Sabha meetings on raising awareness regarding environmental protection, sanitation, waste management, and responsible social behavior.
During the meetings, the role of households, local institutions, and the community in the scientific and effective management of solid and plastic waste will be discussed in detail. Additionally, discussions will cover measures to promote waste segregation, reduce the use of single-use plastics, produce compost from organic waste, and enhance the effectiveness of sanitation activities at the local level.
In the Gram Sabha meetings, special stress will be laid on ensuring the active participation of the general public in maintaining the cleanliness of villages, public spaces, and water sources. Furthermore, strategies will be considered to accelerate public-participation-based sanitation and environmental conservation campaigns by establishing better coordination among Gram Panchayats, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), *Swachhagrahis* (sanitation volunteers), frontline workers, youth and women's groups, and other local stakeholders.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal has appealed to all rural citizens of the district to participate enthusiastically in these special Gram Sabha meetings and to contribute actively towards making the collective efforts for environmental conservation, sanitation, and green and sustainable development a success. He emphasized that the creation of clean, healthy, green, and eco-friendly villages is possible only when every individual in society fulfills their responsibilities and becomes an integral part of this mass movement.
