Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 16:- In accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India and the instructions issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, the District SVEEP Team, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Smt. Komal Mittal, is conducting a campaign to organise special camps for voter registration of eligible youth at various colleges and universities in the district.
Giving information in this regard, District Nodal Officer SVEEP Prof. Gurbakhshish Singh Antal said that special efforts are being made to enrol all eligible youth aged 18 years or above in the electoral rolls in the district. Under this initiative, various colleges and universities have been directed to organise special voter registration camps at their respective institutions.
He said that principals/directors of educational institutions will also ensure that all eligible students studying in the institution are registered as voters. In this regard, the head of the institution will also issue a certificate confirming completion of voter registration of eligible students.
He said that under this campaign, a special voter registration drive was conducted today at Government College, Phase-6, Mohali, with the motivation of the college Principal Prof. Jaspreet Kaur Bains and Nodal Officer SVEEP Dr. Simarpreet Kaur. During the drive, forms for voter registration were filled by 127 newly eligible students and were sent to the District Election Office for further necessary action.
On this occasion, Election Tehsildar Smt. Harpreet Kaur and Election Kanungo Shri Surinder Batra were also specially present.
District Nodal Officer SVEEP Prof. Gurbakhshi Singh Antal appealed to all youth that those who have attained the age of 18 years or above and whose vote has not yet been registered should get themselves registered as voters. He said that eligible youth can register online through the authorised voter service facility of the Election Commission of India or register as voters through the voters.gov.in portal.
He appealed to the youth to get their names entered in the electoral roll in time to exercise their right to vote and also create awareness among other eligible youth in this regard.
