Sangrur, September 5:- As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the work of correction of voter lists under SIR-2026 is going on in Sangrur district. Under this, special camps will be organized at all polling booths of the district on September 6, 2026 from 10 am to 4 pm.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Poonamdeep Kaur said that the Chief Election Officer, Punjab has appointed Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, IAS, Secretary-cum-Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Punjab as the Electoral Roll Observer for Sangrur district. She said that the Electoral Roll Observer will visit the district thrice. The first visit will be made at the time of receiving claims and objections, the second during the disposal of claims and objections and the third during the stage of verification of working copies of BLOs, printing of supplements and final publication of the voter list.
The Deputy Commissioner said that on September 6, the Electoral Roll Observer will visit various polling booths in the district and inspect the special camps. Apart from this, a meeting will also be held with the Electoral Registration Officers of the Vidhan Sabha constituencies, MPs/MLAs and District Presidents, Secretaries and Representatives of recognized political parties regarding the correction of voter lists.
He said that a special meeting will also be held from 12:30 pm to 1 pm at the meeting hall located on the ground floor of the District Administrative Complex, Sangrur to hear the complaints, claims, objections or other problems related to the voter list of the general public and voters. The Electoral Roll Observer will listen to the problems of the common people and ensure that necessary action is taken on the spot to resolve them appropriately. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Poonamdeep Kaur appealed to the residents of the district to reach the special camp to be set up at their respective polling booths on September 6 to get their names registered in the voter list, get necessary corrections made in the details or file claims and objections. She said that maximum participation of eligible citizens will help in making the voter lists more pure and transparent.
