Ludhiana:- With the aim of protecting human rights and providing justice to the people at a speedy, transparent and local level, the Punjab State and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission will open district offices of the core committee of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission in the district-level complexes of all Deputy Commissioner offices of Punjab. In this regard, space has been sought from all Deputy Commissioners of Punjab to open the office.
These words were expressed by Member Punjab State and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission Sardar Jatinder Singh Shanti (Padma Shri awardee) while addressing an awareness program on human rights to the people at a private hotel in Alamgir Market, Ludhiana on Saturday. Padma Shri awardee Sardar Jatinder Singh Shanti said that this initiative makes Punjab the first state in the country where the functioning of the Human Rights Commission will be extended to the district level.
With this step, the common people will not need to go to the Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh for their rights, but they will be able to register their complaints in the district office of this core committee in their own district. Sardar Jatinder Singh Shanti said that the protection of human rights is not only a legal responsibility, but also a social duty.
He said that every section of the society should get equality, justice and respect. He said that the main objective of the commission is to create awareness among the people and to resolve cases related to human rights violations quickly. Sardar Shanti also said that the functioning of the commission will be made more transparent and people-centric. Complaints will be heard in a timely manner and every case will be looked at sensitively.
He said that special attention will be given to protecting the rights of women, children, elderly, workers and the backward sections of the society. Punjab State and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission member Sardar Shanti shed light on the importance of human rights and said that awareness is very important in today's time. He said that human rights should not be limited to books or laws, but they should be followed in the daily life of every person.
Representatives of various organizations working for human rights present on the occasion said that in future, opening the offices of the core committees of the Human Rights Commission at the district level will greatly benefit the people of villages and cities. They said that now our team will work to catch the big drug dealers under the new work 'War on Drugs'. Whoever supports such wrong elements, be it administrative or social, will not be spared.
Sardar Shanti said that under another new work, many visa immigration shops have opened in Punjab. They have looted billions of rupees from the people and the people have not got visas. We have requested lists of such immigration agents as to which agents are registered and which are doing fake work. We have received about 450 applications from people who have been cheated. In this, applications have been received from people who have been cheated on a large scale. Punjab Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh is taking action on all this work.
